Stuttering makes children feel inferior
In the beginning, it is not known when a
child stutters. Because then the child is learning to speak. So it doesn't feel
that way and slowly the child learns to speak complete words. But in some
children, this stuttering becomes more noticeable and never happens at all.
Before speaking at first, the child clings to a word and repeats it several
times. Or half the word is repeated. Many times the emphasis is on a particular
word. Sometimes it stops. Later, no words come out of the mouth and the child
begins to look around.
Stuttering usually begins between the ages
of two and four. It can also be caused by a severe head injury. According to a
study, about 40 million people in the world suffer from stuttering. Stuttering
can also be inherited. Stuttering is more common in the pre-school age. But later
it grows and decreases.
Children with stuttering feel very inferior, but still
many famous people of the world used to stutter. For example, Churchill,
Newton, King George, and Alexander the Great.
The proportion of stuttering in girls is
one-fourth. The reason could not be ascertained. However, some children begin
to stutter with stress, hesitation, anxiety, lip movement, jaw movement, and
blinking. Some children blink. The lips move and the head shakes because they are
going through a very painful situation at the moment.
Therefore, these children
usually stop talking or move away from situations where they face such
problems. Thus they give up a lot of work and fall behind their peers.
Stuttering even when the child is tired or depressed, in a hurry, talking to a
stranger or someone older than himself, such as a teacher or a strict father or
grandfather, or he is very upset Is. But sometimes some children start
stuttering for no reason.
About 80% of children who
stutter often recover within a year. But some children take longer. Because the
home environment also plays a big role in this. The child also starts to
stutter due to parental fights, the presence of oppressive and harsh fathers or
grandfathers, etc. or any trouble at school. A slight change in the brain
damages the muscles that perform the function of the head. Even in situations
of extreme excitement, children begin to stutter.
There are three types of stuttering called
block.
۔ Pre-block
In this, they know that the word is coming
which will be interrupted, so they stop before that word.
۔ Unblock
This is the second block in which the
children stop for a moment while talking.
۔ Post block
There is an interruption after speaking a
word in this block. In addition, there are some characters that are hindered by
them. For example, b, p, mem (m), or the words with which the lips are
connected.
To treat
stuttering, it is important to first fix or change the home environment. Reduce
tension at home, stop talking loudly or loudly, when talking, look at the child
so that he realizes that he is being given full attention. Pay attention to
what the child is doing.
Give the child time and encourage him. Stop teasing or
teasing your child unnecessarily and do not discriminate against them or allow
them to be criticized. Explain the same things to his friends and those close
to him. When the child is talking, let him finish his speech before he calms
down, do not interrupt, then pause for a moment and try to use the words that
the child has spoken. Add more to your conversation. Especially the words that
the child stumbles upon.
Let your
child knows that you enjoy what he or she is saying. Turn off the radio or TV at
mealtime. Occasionally, he would gather his friends and give short speeches or
recite recitations and naats, which would greatly reduce his stuttering.
Talking to
small children and pets at home can also alleviate or reduce their stuttering.
The child may also be given the practice of speaking in front of a mirror.
Don't put too many exciting programs on TV and tell your child's friends not to
make fun of the child when he stutters.
Ask your child to listen to the
teacher's lessons slowly and loudly and show patience and restraint until the
child completes the sentence. This lesson can also be practiced at home. Don't
ask your child too many questions at once and listen carefully to the answer to
each question.
In the
meantime, continue to treat the child with a speech therapist. Babies usually
recover in three weeks to three months. There is currently no prescriptive drug
that will stop the flow of emotions, though their effects can be curtailed.
With a little attention, hard work, and patience, you can save your child from
this disease or habit.
